When used in conjunction with a building automation system, building access controls do much more than just open and close doors.  Electromagnetic locks ensure that your building remains secure until someone with the proper key card actually cards in.  Access controls can keep a log of who goes where and when they get there.  Keys can be assigned electronically, so that each person needs only one key card to get into all the doors he or she has access to.  If a key card is lost, locks don't need to be changed - the card can simply be deactivated.
